Bridge the Gap Between Temporary Status and Permanent Residency.
The Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP) is a unique work permit that allows eligible temporary residents to continue working legally in Canada while they wait for a decision on their permanent residence (PR) application.
It is an open work permit, meaning you donβt need a job offer or a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), and you can work for any employer across Canada. The main purpose of the BOWP is to prevent skilled workers from losing status or employment during the transition from temporary to permanent residency.
You may be eligible for a BOWP if:
β You currently hold a valid work permit (or your status is maintained)
β You have submitted a permanent residence application under one of the following programs:
– Express Entry β Federal Skilled Worker (FSW)
– Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
– Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
– Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) (with IRCC acknowledgment)
– Agri-Food Immigration Pilot
β You received Acknowledgment of Receipt (AOR) or have passed the R10 completeness check
β Your current work permit will expire within 4 months or has just expired, and you are under maintained status
You should apply for a BOWP:
β Once youβve received AOR for your PR application
β Within 4 months of your work permitβs expiry
β Before your current status ends, to maintain continuous legal stay and work rights
